Memory Diamonds, Col and the Gift Box
Updated 16 Oct 2026
Memory Defrag has two main currencies: Memory Diamonds for scouts and convenience, and Col for your gear.
Memory Diamonds
Memory Diamonds (often shortened to MD or "diamonds") are the premium currency. On MD:Rebirth every diamond is earned in game. There is nothing to buy with real money.
New accounts start with 300 Memory Diamonds.
Where to earn them
| Source | How much |
|---|---|
| Login bonus | 5 on days 1, 4 and 7 of each week-long loop |
| Daily missions | 5 a day |
| Quest bonus missions | Each quest has three bonus missions (for example "Achieve rank S", "No deaths", "Defeat all enemies"). Each pays once, the first time you complete it, and finishing all three pays a little more |
| Reading a story quest | 1 for each story chapter the first time you read it, more for event stories |
| Missions | One-time missions for reaching user ranks and clearing parts of the story |
| Events | Event point rewards and event stories |
Go back to quests you already cleared and finish their missing bonus missions. Every chapter of the story has diamonds waiting for a clean S-rank clear.
What they are used for
| Use | Notes |
|---|---|
| Scouts | 25 for one scout, 250 for an 11-unit scout. Some banners have discounted steps |
| Weapon Purchase | Weapon scouts, when they are open |
| Equipment storage | Raise the number of weapons and armor you can hold |
| Treasure chests | After a clear you open one chest for free. In the original game extra chests cost diamonds; on MD:Rebirth extra chests are not open yet |
| Continues | The original game charged diamonds to revive your party after a defeat. On MD:Rebirth continues are free at the time of writing (this may change) |
Diamonds go fast on single scouts. Saving for a full 11-unit scout, or a step-up banner, gives you more for the same diamonds. See the Scouts guide.
Col
Col is the everyday currency. You earn it from:
- every quest you clear (stronger quests give more),
- the Sunday weekday quest in Extra Quest, which mostly drops Col,
- selling equipment you do not need,
- events.
You spend it at the Blacksmith to upgrade and evolve weapons, armor and accessories. Upgrading a ★4 weapon from level 1 to 40 costs about 400,000 Col, so Col becomes the limit quickly. The equipment guide has the full costs.
Other things you collect
| Item | What it does |
|---|---|
| Stardust (Small) and Stardust (Medium) | Traded at the Exchange Shop (Menu > Exchange Shop) for medallions, keys and other materials |
| Scout Medals (Bronze, Silver, Gold) | Ranking event rewards, spent on Medal Scouts. See Events |
| Event items and event points | Collected during an event for its rewards |
| Hacking Crystals | Raise a unit's level cap. You get them from duplicate scouts. See Limit breaks |
You can hold up to 999,999 of each item.
The Gift Box
Login bonuses, event rewards, mission rewards and most other gifts arrive in the Gift Box in the menu. A number on the button shows how many are waiting. Collect them one by one or all at once.
Gifts have an expiry date, shown in the Gift Box. A gift you do not collect in time is deleted.
The diamond shop
In the original game the Shop sold Memory Diamonds for real money. MD:Rebirth is a free fan project: the shop has no purchases, and every diamond comes from playing.
